(Originally posted on Kickstarter as a campaign update for Other Worlds Tarot)

There’s less than 24 hours left in the campaign! I’m so happy to have received all of your backing. I know how the last days of a campaign can go (lots of new pledges), so I’m not yet counting out the next stretch goal! We’ll see how it goes!

The last prototype I was waiting to receive, the altar cloths, have arrived! They’re edge-to-edge printed cotton and the design is the back of the deck. The collage was made from a close-up photo of an eye with a center bar that is from a rendering of a nebula replacing the eye’s iris.

Anyone who pledges at the Apex level will receive an altar cloth with the deck and other listed goodies. I’m happy I get to share what it looks like before the end of the campaign! If you’d like to change your pledge to Apex (or any other level), you can do so anytime before tomorrow, 11/28 at 1 pm EST.

Today I drew the 9 of Treasure. This suit is called “Treasure” because I wanted it to be able to apply to anything one values, not only physical or material security.

The figure in this card seems to have a luxurious setup. They clearly like and collect feathers because this reminds them of the freedom birds have to fly. But this person has maybe put too much emphasis on the symbol of freedom, which they have gilded, obscuring the individuality of the feathers. The collar of large feathers dipped in gold must be heavy, even though the original feather was not. The two feathers in the foreground act like a gate, restricting freedom of movement.

My artwork and interpretation of this card reveals how easy it is for something we value to become abstracted and turned into a self-referential symbol. We can easily lose direct connection with the thing we actually value.

Does this card resonate for you today?

xo,

Sabrina
