Today I sat in on a seminar hosted by the MIT program in Art, Culture, and Technology (ACT). ACT is co-sponsoring a lecture series as part of MAS.S63 | Black Mobility and Safety in the US I, a new course taught by Ekene Ijeoma, Director of the Poetic Justice Group at the MIT Media Lab.
The speaker was Tricia Hersey, artist, community organizer, and founder of The Nap Ministry and the topic was Sleeping while Black. I made some notes that dovetail with my thoughts about Derrick Adams: Buoyant. I’ll write a separate post for Patrons about Hersey’s talk because to include it in the Buoyant discussion would take focus away from that artwork, and the Nap Ministry performances deserve their own consideration.
