I’m delighted to announce an update that I’m so excited about. I’ve launched a Patreon page which is where I will publish my diverse research-creation practices.

What is Patreon?
Patreon is a crowdsourcing site where creators of all types engage with patrons who are fans of their work. The patronage model has a long history in the arts and enables creators to pursue projects that otherwise may not have been made (the Sistine Chapel ceiling, for instance!) Patreon is a platform that is designed to help creators of all sorts reach their audience and form a supportive community.

Why are you making a Patreon page?
I first created the page so I could get to know how the platform worked to teach my students to get comfortable asking for financial support as creators. Then I found that I, too, needed to get comfortable with that.

You know I’m a historian of photography. I love doing small research projects and am still very engaged in reading scholarship in my field and writing short essays. I’m also a visual artist and a born teacher. Patreon made sense for me as a platform to help me stop thinking of these things as distinct parts of my research-creation. They are all part of the same creative urge, and this is a way to help me support all three of these threads.

This image references the art and magic that I talk about so often in reference to photography. This is the perfect image, a found slide with a double exposure of a stylish woman and Niagara Falls—artistic and magical and uniquely photographic—to refer to what I want to highlight more on Patreon.

Why should I become a Patron?
Only you can decide if you’d like to be one of my patrons. I would love you to join me there! For a pledge of only $1 per month, you will be showing me that you are into my numerous and diverse research-creation practices. Also, you will be directly helping me bring more of my project ideas into the world.

I hope to see you on Patreon! There’s already some exclusive content loaded up.

xo,
Sabrina
