To put in good things jar. I need to do like Jasika and write these down on paper to read at the end of the year but I’m going to put it here for now: – good day with mom for a couple of hours. I conditioned and combed her hair. The rehab doctor said Jeremy and I were asking all the right questions. – my TA confided in me about a bad situation and it felt nice to be a trusted person for her. – great day with history of photo in special collections (even though spec collx forgot we were coming today lol). One student who rarely talks stayed late and thanked me for setting up the visit. Two students now want to hand make their own stereoscopes, and one wants to make stereoscopic drawings. One of the photographers in the class wants to make an album by hand after looking at a couple of 1909 family albums. – in Real World I asked if anyone had any brags and I had a record number of students raise their hands! It was awesome. Some sold work, one got her design chosen for her restaurant’s St Patrick’s day t-shirt, one was told he was an awesome substitute teacher for handling the nightmare 1st grade class, one started a little band after performing at her first open mic like two months ago, one got to the second round of a juried exhibition at a museum. – in class we talked about time management a little which veered into self care and that it’s ok to get Bs – the student who stayed after, who I already have a protect-at-all-costs attitude toward, thanked me for being so patient with them and he seemed very stressed so I asked if he would like a hug and he did want a hug. He said this is his favorite class and he’s learning a lot. Then we talked about getting that money and raised each other’s energy so we said goodnight on a very upbeat note after an intense (for him) emotional chat. I’m trying to be very careful about not letting our convos in that class get too emotional until I am more skilled at bringing the group energy back around to a good place. I think I had a little practice with it tonight bc we listed anxieties related to time management and chipped away at them to make them smaller and way less scary by the end of class.
