It’s so obvious but I finally found the words about why selling plants or other garbage (literally discarded items) is so satisfying.
Capitalism only works when something in the supply chain is free or cheap. In big capitalism it’s always labor.
But if the actual commodity you’re selling is free or inexpensive to create (plants, some art, some crafts, things other people throw away [my slides!]) then you can make capitalism work a little differently at an individual level without having such a direct tie to selling your hours of labor for money.
Anyway long live pickers & witches & fixers & artists & anyone else who literally creates commodities out of thin air.
