Stories in Black and White (2011)
“Stories in Black and White” is a reflection upon recent popular anxiety that books will soon be supplanted by other technological apparatus. In this work, the traditional cross-stitch technique is merged with and dependent upon technology, both in subject matter (digital ephemera) and in execution. Representing the opening lines of several of the artist’s favorite books, the QR codes comprising “Stories in Black and White” complicate the relationship between narrative and data, between physical object and interface.
